Volunteer
There are so many varied, fun and interesting jobs to do that take place all year round – from helping with the Senior Citizens’ Christmas lunch, quiz nights, bingo or music festival to torch making, collecting for charity, helping on Carnival night and the morning after. Volunteering is a great way to meet people in the village and to be a part of what makes Mayfield so special.
If you can help from time to time, please do fill in the contact form to show which activities you would like to volunteer for.
If you want to get more involved in the Society and become one of the Boyes and Belles, please do join us. As you would expect, the Boyes and Belles are a super friendly group who warmly welcome all forms of support, and love nothing more than a drink in the Rose and Crown!
Join us
You can help keep the bonfire tradition alive by volunteering, or you can join us to become one of the Boyes and Belles and be part of this vibrant, friendly society and join in more of our activities. The Boyes and Belles meet for a monthly social drink at the Rose and Crown (when Covid restrictions allow) and get together for ad hoc working parties, for example to make torches and raise funds.
Many of our members prefer to help behind the scenes, and some of us enjoy nothing better than to be part of the amazing spectacle by helping out on carnival night. As a member, you can also choose to join our walking group and take part in the Mayfield carnival procession. The walking group has a costumed theme, we also have a number of striped jumpers that can be loaned to members who wish to try out walking with us. Costumes can be simple to make (help is available) and we run a minibus to most events so you can enjoy the events to the full. As a Sussex Bonfire Society, we can also attend other similar events across the county and attend an event most weekends in September, October and November, you can attend as many or as few as you wish. To join the Society please complete the online form below, alternatively you can download a Membership Application Form or contact us with any enquiries.

Friends and Patrons
If you would like to support the Society, but are unable to commit time, then please consider becoming a Friend or Patron by setting up a standing order to help the Society’s funds. All the money we collect at the carnival is donated to charity, however, each year the society needs to raise around £8-10,000 to put on the carnival procession, covering everything from St Johns Ambulance and Policing to hiring bands and the fireworks display.
We ask Friends to donate £10 per annum and Patrons to donate £30 or more per annum. Every pound donated helps us keep the event alive, and Patrons can be acknowledged in our publicity, or remain anonymous if preferred. To become a Friend or patron, please complete the online application form, alternatively you can download the Friends & Patrons Application form.
