Mayfield Carnival Procession
The Boyes and Belles are delighted to announce our annual Carnival Procession will be held on Saturday 17th September. We will continue with the the same route and timings introduced last year, with an earlier start at 7:15pm, and we will not process along West Street, instead the second procession will turn around in Station Road, near the Martyr’s Memorial. The Map shows the routes and approximate timings and there is more detailed information about the route and road closures below.
As always, we will be collecting for local charities so please do remember to bring cash and give generously.
TIMETABLE
COMMEMORATION 6.45pm. There will be a service to remember the dead at the War Memorial where a wreath will be laid accompanied by a short Eulogy, followed by a minutes silence and the lighting of the fiery Poppies. This year we will also include a memorial to commemorate Ukraine’s fallen.
FIRST PROCESSION 7.15pm. Forms up along Station Road (Bands form up in the top of West Street), lights up at the Horse trough, then proceeds up the High Street, down Fletching Street, and stops at the Rose & Crown.
SECOND PROCESSION 8.15pm. Leaves Rose and Crown, up Fletching Street, down the High Street, along Station Road to beyond Old Lane, and then turns on itself and returns up Station Road to stop just before the Horse trough.
GRAND PROCESSION 9.00pm. Lights up at the Horse trough, proceeds up the High Street and around to the gates of Court Meadow where it de-torches.
BONFIRE 9.00pm: The bonfire will be located towards the bottom of Court Meadow, to the right of the Fun Fair. The fire site will be divided into two sections, with the far side of the fire reserved for Bonfire Society members only (Mayfield and visiting societies), and the uphill side for the public. It will be lit at approximately 9.00pm. There will be fire-crackers around the bonfire so please be prepared for noise.
FIREWORKS 9.30pm: The fireworks display will commence as soon as the end of the procession has cleared the Court Meadow gates, which we anticipate will be around 9.30pm. Please note no fireworks are permitted by members of the public as our event.
We look forward to seeing you at another spectacular carnival.
